Hanafi Scholars on Raqs (Dancing) of Sufis

Hanafi Scholars on Raqs.
Inshallah in this post i will quote Hanafi scholars, declaring Raqs Harram which we found Sufis doing from the Hanafi School of thought.

Allama Aini Hanafi said about Sufis :

“And (In the name of Ghana etc) these ignoratns Sufis have invented Bidat, they are not trustworthy, because when you research about their sayings and see their practices so you will find the signs of non-islamic and zindiq people”[ Ummatdul Qari 21/401 ]

Allama Ahmad Tahtawi Hanafi ( 1233 H) writes :
“Doing Raqs, Clapping, making voices aloud, playing harmonium, shrieking and to play bugle all these things which you find in the habit of Sufis are Harram with Consensus (Ijma). Because it is the way of Kuffar (Disbelievers)”[ Hashiyatal Tahawi Ala Mawaqi Al-Falah 183 ]

Allama Hasfaki Hanafi (1198-1252 dH )writes :
“Whoever thinks to be Raqs Halal is Kafir, Specially those who plays with it and play Music” [ Al Dur Al Mukhtar 4/446 ]

Abdin Shami Hanafi writes :
“About it (Raqs) means whirling and with the moving of mouzoun to get up and down, as the some people do who claim of the Tassawuf. I am quoting through Imam Qurtubi (rah) about Ghana, Playing Dhol and Raqs the Ijma and Ittefaq of Scholar on its prohibition”[ Fatawa e Shami 4/446 ]

Allama Alusi (rahimaullah) on his Tafsir Ruh Al Mani Under the Ayat of Surah Luqman Chapter 31 Verse 6:
{ وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُواً أُوْلَـٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ }

{ وَللَّهِ ٱلأَسْمَاء ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ فَٱدْعُوهُ بِهَا وَذَرُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِى أَسْمَٰئِهِ }
[الأعراف: 180].The Singing of Songs and Qawwali has been spreaded all over the Countries and Cities. Even the Mosques are not isolated from it. And the singers and Qawwals (Those who sing Qawwali) on special times sing the Qawwali on the Minars of the Mosques, which are based on the topics of Intoxicants and also recite the poetries, and various types of Sur they produce, and does every kind of Harram (Prohibited) act. Even after this from the money of the people duas specified for them. They have been called such and such big “Awliya Allah” and even being deviated from the Deen (Islam), they have been called such and such “Allama Fahama”. And even worst than this is what the Sufis does. May Allah destroy them, and when they have been objected due to their “Shirkiya Qawwalis”, then they say we take (In Qawwali) the word intoxication as “Love for Allah”. Sakar (By taking the names of intoxicated things) they claim the love for Allah and Laila, Mayat and Saa’di types of names they directes to Allah. This is the great and worst insult of Allah (swt).

Quran Says Surah Al-Araf Chapter 7 Verse 180:

“The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on him by them; but shun such men as use profanity in his names: for what they do, they will soon be requited”

And only beautiful names are for Allah only. So only call him from the beautiful names and even don’t make a contact with them those change his names. These people will get punishment. [ Ruh Al Mani Volume 11, Page 82,83 ]

Allama Alusi (rh), goes on to further and quotes one of the prominent scholar of his time regarding this :
“From the Harram Sama (Singing) in our time includes the Sama (Singing) of Sufiya (i.e Qawwali) even if it is without Raqs. The demerits of Qawwali is more than the worst poetries. Even after this the Aqeeda (Creed) of the Qawalls (Singers of Qawalli) is that it is a means of access to the Allah. They think that those who are more proficient in Qawwali, are more fearful of Allah. Nauzubillah Min Dhallik, May Allah destroy them (Qawalls and Suffes) where they have deviated”[ Ruh Al Mani, Volume 11 Page 85 ]
