Mulla Ali Qari while defending Ibn Taymiyah and Ibn al Qayyim from Ibn Hajr al Haytami's accusations mentions the following quote of these two great Imams.

(Imam Malik said:) "Istiwa' (Rising over the Throne) is known, the manner is unknown, believing in it is an obligation, and inquiring about it is an innovation."

By these words Imam Malik differentiated the known meaning of siffat and the "Kayf" which is not known to human brain. This answer of Imam Malik is enough for all the attributes of Allah like hearing, seeing, knowledge, Hiyat, Qudrah, Will, Nuzool, Anger, Mercy, Laugh etc. So the meaning of all the attributes are known and the Kafiyah is unknwon because the known meaning of kafiyah is part of kafiyah of dhaat and its dimensions.

So if the dhaat and its dimensions are not known then the Kafiyah of His attributes are also not known. The best saying in this issue is to accept all the attributes of Allah which Allah himself or Messenger of Allah peace be upon him attributed to Him. And do not make taweel and Ta`teel (i.e. rejecting the meaning of attributes in the meaning like Tafwid Mutlaq etc), neither its Kafiyah should be told, neither Its likness should be told (i.e. don't make Tashbeeh), rather accept all the Names and attributes of Allah and do not make the tashbeeh with the creation. So your accepting the attributes should be free from Tashbeeh and your negation of Kafiyah of attributes should be like that it should not negate the apparent and true meaning of attributes.

Whoever rejected the meaning of Istiwa is among Mu`atla, and whoever did Tashbeeh to Istawa then he is Mushabiha, and whoever said Its Istawa but there is nothing like it then he is Muwahhid. [This quote is present in 'Madarij al-Salikeen' of Ibn al Qayyim 2/86]

(Mulla Ali qari said) This is his saying, his aim is clear and this is the aqeedah of people of truth among the salaf as-Saliheen and Majority of the Khalaf. So it is not right to slander him and we should not ponder upon those who do this. His saying is same as Imam al Adham and Greatest of the Mujtahid (Abu Hanifa), as he mentioned in Fiqh al Akbar that Allah has hands, face and Nafs. And what Allah mentioned in Quran about hand face and nafs then those are his attributes (bila kayf) without describing, It should not be said that his "hand" means "dominion" or "blessing" because in this is negation of attribute (sifat) and this is the saying of Qadariyyah and Mu'tazila, rather his hand is his attribute (bila kayf)[Mirqaat al Mafateeh Kitab al Libaas, vol 8 page 217 under the hadith 4340 dar ul kutub Ilmiya]
