First of all we should know that Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him was Nur in the sense that he was Hidayah to the whole of Mankind, not that he was literal nur plus human being Inshallah we will discuss the issue of Nur and Bashar

Part I: Was Prophet peace be upon him made from Literal Nur?

Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai rahimahullah said

Prophet peace be upon him was bashar but still he was not like us, rather he was sent as khair ul bashar and noor e hidayat, even the fragrance of his sweat was better than kustoori.

under the hadith 253 of Muwatta Imam Malik Riwayat Ibn Qasim

Imam Al Qurtubi beautifully explained

“And He named his Prophet “Nur” and said: “There has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book.” (Al Maida verse 15). And this is because the book guides and clarifies, and likewise the Prophet”.[Tafsir al Qurtubi under Surah Nur ayah 35]

Fatawa Islamiyah says

The light of the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) is the light of the Message and the Guidance by which Allaah guides whom He wills from among His creatures. Without doubt, the light of the Message and the light of guidance are from Allaah. Allaah, the Most High says: It is not given to any human being that Allaah should speak to him unless (it be) by Inspiration or from behind a veil or (that) He sends a Messenger to reveal what He wills by His Leave. Verily, He is Most High, Most Wise. And thus We have sent to you, (O Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam)) Ruhan (an Inspiration and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is faith, but We have made it (this Quran) a light therewith We guide whomsoever of Our worshippers We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam)) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allaahs religion of Islamic Monotheism). The path of Allaah, to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Verily, all matters at the end go to Allaah (for decision). Ash-Shura 42:51-53. But this light is not a part of the Seal of the Awliya, as some of the pantheists claim, for he was flesh, blood and bone… etc He was created from a father and a mother and he had no creation prior to his birth. As for the narrations which claim Allaah created the light of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) or that Allaah filled His Hand with Light from His Face and that this handful (of Light) was Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam), or that he looked at it and then it became drops of Light, each of which them became the Prophets, or that He created all of creation from his light (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam), this and all such narrations cannot be authentically attributed to the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam). Refer to page 366 and after of the eighteenth volume of the book Majmu Al-Fatawa by Ibn Taymiyah. And may peace and blessings be upon our Master, Muhammad and upon his family and Companions.[Permanent Committee for Research and Verdicts,Fatawa Islamiyah Vol. 1 Page 286]

Proofs for the Claim

Proof 1

Say, “I am a man like you – it has been revealed to me that your god is One God.” (Quran 18:110)

a) Ibn e kathir commented

Muawiyah Bin abi sufiyan RA said this was the last verse which was revealed. It was ordered that Say to the people that I am man like you, you are also men if you claim that I am lying, let him bring something like this that I have brought. For I did not know the Unseen, the matters of the past which you asked me about and I told you about, the story of the people of the Cave and of Dhul-Qarnayn, stories which are true — I did not know any of this except for what Allah made known to me

b) Ibn e jareer Tabree said

Allaah says, “Say to these polytheists, O Muhammad: I am only human like you, from the sons of Adam, I have no knowledge except what God taught me

c) Alousi Hanafi Said in response to a Christian Abdul Maseeh
So, Our Prophet Peace be upon him is Slave of Allah and his Messenger, and a Man.. needs come to him as Allah says (Say: I am only human like you)[al-Jawab al-Faseeh Vol 2 page 218]

Comment: If Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon is literal light then these scholars would have told us that Prophet peace be upon him was Human as well as Literal Light. But no where any of the verse in Quran and accepted commentator says like Brelvis.

Proof 2

(Say: “Glorified be my Lord! Am I anything but a man, sent as a Messenger”)

a) Ibn e kathir commented

meaning, `Glorified, exalted and sanctified be He above the notion that anyone would come before Him concerning any matter pertaining to His authority and sovereignty. He is the One Who does what He wills. If He willed, he could have given you what you asked for, or if He willed, he could have refrained. I am only a Messenger to you, sent to convey the Messages of my Lord and advise you. I have done that, and the response to what you have asked is to be decided by Allah, may He be glorified.’

b) Zamakhshari (538 h) said

(Am I anything but) a Messenger like other messengers، (A man) Like you

Proof 3

Mushrikeen Rejected The Message by saying as ALLAH says in Surah Furqan ayah 7

And they say: “Why does this Messenger eat food, and walk about in the markets. Why is not an angel sent down to him to be a warner with him”

They also said in surah Al Mudassir ayah 25

(25. “This is nothing but the word of a human being!”)

Proof 4

Ibn ‘Abbas reported: I spent a night with my material aunt (sister of my mother) Maimuna. The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) got up during the night and relieved himself, then washed his face and hands and went to sleep. He then got up again, and came to the water skin and loosened its straps, then performed good ablution between the two extremes. He then stood up and observed prayer. I also stood up and stretched my body fearing that he might be under the impression that I was there to find out (what he did at night). So I also performed ablution and stood up to pray, but I stood on his left. He took hold of my hand and made me go round to his right side. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) completed thirteen rak’abs of his night prayer. He then lay down and slept and snored (and it was his habit to snore while asleep). Then Bilal came and he informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution, and his supplication included there words:” O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right hand, light on my left hand, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and enhance light for me.” Kuraib (the narrator) said: There are seven (words more) which are in my heart (but I cannot recall them) and I met some of the descendants of ‘Abbas and they narrated these words to me and mentioned in them: (light) in my sinew, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair, in my skin, and made a mention of two more things. (Sahih Muslim Book #004, Hadith #1671)

a) Imam Nawawi Commented under this hadith
Scholars said He (peace be upon him) asked Noor for his parts of Body and Jahaatah, It means conveying the truth, its Light and its guidance. [Sharah Sahih Muslim Vol 1 Page 260]

b) al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar Asqalani mentioned

Al-Qurtubi said: It is possible to take the apparent meaning of the Anwaar which were asked by Prophet peace be upon him in his Prayer. He peace be upon him asked Allah to make his every part of body a light, so that it will be light in the darkness on the DAY OF JUDGMENT for The Prophet, his followers and anyone to whom Allah wills. He (al Qurtubi) said: First it is said for knowledge and Guidance, as Allah says in Quran (for the one who accept Islam) “and he is upon a light from his Lord” [al-Zumar verse 22] and the saying of Allah “and made for him light by which to walk among the people”[alAnaam verse 122]….. He (at-Taybi) said: All of these things goes to guidance and conveying light of truth and so on.[Fath ul Bari vol 2 Page 430]

Proof 5

Prophet peace be upon him said

O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death) from my Lord and I, in response to Allah’s call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family.

(Sahih Muslim Book#031, Hadith #5920)

Comment

Here Prophet Peace be upon him clearly said i m a human being he was not literal nur and human being both, if he was then why he said i am human being? he himself said but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light والنور.Does that mean Quran is literal nur plus book? does that mean Quran has not shadow??
Proof 6 (Logical points)

a) If Uthman RA was called “dhun-Nurayn”(Meaning two lights/nur) does that mean he was literal nur plus human??

b) Jibril when he takes the shape of men, can we say he’s an Angel plus human?

here is the evidence of above claim

Narrated ‘Aisha: (the mother of the faithful believers) Al-Harith bin Hisham asked Allah’s Apostle “O Allah’s Apostle! How is the Divine Inspiration revealed to you?” Allah’s Apostle replied, “Sometimes it is (revealed) like the ringing of a bell, this form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes ‘ off after I have grasped what is inspired. Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me and I grasp whatever he says.” ‘Aisha added: Verily I saw the Prophet being inspired Divinely on a very cold day and noticed the Sweat dropping from his forehead (as the Inspiration was over). (Sahih Bukhari Book #1, Hadith #2)

c) Najashiyy after he died light came out of him and his grave as Aishah ra mentioned does that mean he’s also Nur and Human ?

Here is the evidence of above claim

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin: When Negus died, we were told that a light would be seen perpetually at his grave. [Sunan Abu dawood Book no: 14 Hadith 2571, Shaykh Zubair Ali Zaee and Shaykh Shuayb Aranoot said the chain is hasan]

d) Musk used to come out of him(Peace be upon him) wherever he goes without putting musk!does that mean he is literal musk plus man?
e) Prayer is called light, does that mean when we pra we are literal light? patience is brightness, does that mean when we do sabr we are literal brightness?

It was narrated from Abu Malik Ash’ari that:
The Messenger of Allah said: “Performing ablution properly is half of faith, saying Al-Hamdu Lillah fills the Scale (of good deeds), saying Subhan-Allah and Allahu Akbar fills the heavens and the earth, prayer is light, Zakat is proof, patience is brightness and the Qur’an is proof for you or against you. Every person goes out in the morning to sell his soul, so he either frees it or destroys it.
Sunan ibn Maajah, Book 1, Hadith 293

Comment:As seen above the prophet (s.a.w) metaphorically or literally compared prayer with noor (light) but this does not mean prayer is made from light or that prayer is not a system of bowing + prostrating + etc, rather using your torch lights to worship allah. Those who assert that the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is made from light and that too the light of Allah , na’dhubillah, have uttered something that could be the cause of their doom ! MAY ALLAH GUIDE US AND THEM Same way Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is light but that light is the light of guidance but not literal light or Physical light

f) arabic is a language of metephors for e.g , the saying of the prophet ” whoever accepts to be a judge , it is as if he has slaughtered himself with a knife”

this does not mea it is prohibited, rather it is a figure of speech

Proof 7

Here Abu Ramtha RA clearly said

I thought Prophet peace be upon him was not Like other People, Suddenly i saw him that he was Bashar. [Musnad Ahmad Hadeeth no: 6934, Zawaid e Musnad Ahmad 2/227-228, Authenticated by Shaykh Shaoib aranoot in Taleeq al Musnad Vol 11 page 280, Authenticated by Hakim in al-Mustadrak 2/425 and Dahabee agreed with him, Ibn Hibban mentioned in his Saheeh no: 5995]

Proof no: 8

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The angels were created from light, and Iblees was created from smokeless fire, and Adam (peace be upon him) was created from what has been described to you.” Narrated by Muslim, 2996.

a) Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy on him) said

This indicates that the well known hadeeth that is in circulation among people – “The first thing that Allaah created was the light of your Prophet, O Jaabir” – is false, and so are other similar ahaadeeth which say that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was created from light. This hadeeth clearly indicates that the angels are the only ones who are created from light, not Adam and his sons, so pay heed and do not be negligent. [al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (458)]

Reply to the evidences of Ahlul Bidah (according to them Prophet peace be upon him was literally light and as well as Human and some of the extreme Ahlul Bidah says Prophet peace be upon him was Noor of Allah as they say Nabi Noor um Min Noor ILLAH)

Their proof no: 1

O people of the book! Indeed Our Messenger has come to you making clear to you most of what you hid of the Book and forgiving much; Indeed, there has come to you a light and a clear Book from God; (Quran 5:15)

so here ALLAH says Prophet peace be upon him is light.

Reply

How is it proving that Prophet peace be upon him was literal light and human being as well? it means that he is light of guidance as next verse is itself proving

here is the next verse

(16. Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His Pleasure to ways of peace, and He brings them out of darkness by His permission unto light and guides them to a straight path.)

let us prove from mufassireen.

a) Ibn e Jareer Tabaree in his commentary writes:
Meaning of Nur is Muhammad Peace be upon him, Because of him Allah Illuminated the truth, Prevailed Islam, terminated the shirk, He (peace be upon him) is light for the one who wants to take light from him [Jame al Bayan fe Tafseer al Quran under 5/15]

b) Imam al-Qurtubi commented

That is, ‘a radiance’. It is said to be ‘Islam’ and it is (also) said to be ‘Muhammad (pbuh)’ according to al-Zajjaaj

He also said

Meaning: The darknesses of kufur and ignorance to the nur (light) of Islam and guidance”.

c) Ibn Jawzi commented under 5:15

(there has come to you a light from ALLAH) Qatadah said The meaning of Nur is: The Prophet Muhammad (Peace upon him) and others say, Its Islam (and third one) Kitab al mubeen that is Quran
d) Fakhr ud din AL-Razi commented
There are these opinions: First is that ‘light’ symbolizes ‘Muhammad (pbuh)’ and ‘the book’ symbolizes ‘the Quran’; the second is that ‘light’ symbolizes ‘Islam’ and ‘the book’ symbolizes ‘the Quran’; the third is that ‘light’ and ‘the book’ both refer to ‘the Quran’.

Comment:One can clearly see that its Quran ,ISLAM or Prophet Muhammad beace be upon him we have no problem in accepting all of the commentaries because the meaning is same that is guidance as Commentators cleared

Their proof no: 2

Quran states:

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The “Parable” of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things. (Quran 24:35)

These people says that “The Likness of his light” refers to the Nur of Muhammad Peace be upon him.”

Reply

First thing to note is that there are different views a)Ibne Kathir Commented

(The parable of His Light) There are two views concerning the meaning of the pronoun (His). The first is that it refers to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, meaning that the parable of His guidance in the heart of the believer is (as a niche) This was the view of Ibn ‘Abbas. The second view is that the pronoun refers to the believer, which is indicated by the context of the words and implies that the parable of the light in the heart of the believer is as a niche. So the heart of the believer and what he is naturally inclined to of guidance and what he learns of the Qur’an which is in accordance with his natural inclinations are, as Allah says:

(Can they who rely on a clear proof from their Lord, and whom a witness from Him recites it (can they be equal with the disbelievers)) ﴿11:17﴾. The heart of the believer in its purity and clarity is likened to a lamp in transparent and jewel-like glass, and the Qur’an and Shari’ah by which it is guided are likened to good, pure, shining oil in which there is no impurity or deviation……

Ibn Abbas (ra) went to Ka’b al-Ahbar (ra) and asked him to explain the Allah’s saying: {whose oil is well-nigh luminous}, Ka’b (ra) said: It is an (example of) Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) i.e. He is evident to people as Prophet even if he had not declared his Nabuwah, just like the olive oil glows even without being lit……

Having mentioned this parable of the Light of His guidance in the heart of the believer Allah ends this Ayah with the words:
(And Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is All-Knower of everything.) meaning, He knows best who deserves to be guided and who deserves to be led astray.(end quote)
b) Tafsir Jalalayn says

..The likeness of His Light, that is, the description of it [as it resides] in the heart of a believer, is as a niche wherein is a lamp(end)

c) Imam Al Qurtubi beautifully explained

“And He named his Prophet Nur and said: there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book.)and this is because the book guides and clarifies, and likewise the Prophet”.[Surah Nur ayah 35] So These are different views

1. the pronoun refers to the believer, which is indicated by the context of the words and implies that the parable of the light in the heart of the believer is as a niche.

2. It refers to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, meaning that the parable of His guidance in the heart of the believer is (as a niche)

3. “The Likness of his light” refers to the Nur of Muhammad Peace be upon him because the book guides and clarifies, and likewise the Prophet.

Even if we agree the third one then it again means guidance(as said by Iamam al Qurtubee), why? Because it is mentioned in Tafsi Jalalayn under 24:35 “the light of God is His guidance of the believer, light upon the light of faith. God guides to His Light, that is, [to] the religion of Islam, whom He will.”

Ibne Kathir Commented (Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.) means, the Guide of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth.(end quote)

Comment: When the Light of Allah is the Guide of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, then how can they say the Light of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is literal light? Surely If it is like the Light of Allah then it is the Guide of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth. Lastly our stance is supported by hadith, Ibne Kathir mentioned in the commentary of 24:35

Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri said, “The Messenger of Allah said:

(Hearts are of four kinds: the heart that is clear like a shining lamp; the heart that is covered and tied up; the heart that is upside-down; and the heart that is clad in armor. As for the clear heart, it is the heart of the believer in which is a lamp filled with light; as for the covered heart, this is the heart of the disbeliever; as for the upside-down heart, this is the heart of the hypocrite, who recognizes then denies; as for the armor-clad heart, this is the heart in which there is both faith and hypocrisy. The parable of the faith in it is that of legume, a sprout that is irrigated with good water, and the likeness of the hypocrisy in it is that of sores that are fed by blood and pus. Whichever of the two prevails is the characteristic that will dominate.) Its chain of narrators is good (Jayyid) although they (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.(end quote)

Note: These types of ahadith are used by Shias, Batinis and Ismailees. Below is the abstract from the ik mentioned above.

And the beginning of this Hadith is found in the Batini Isma’ili literature as they want to say that the Prophet (saw) and ‘Ali came from the light of Allah, see the book “Usul Al-Isma’iliyah” of Dr Sulayman ibn Abdillah As-Salumi vol 2 p 459.

And the one who quoted a close Hadith is ‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Al-Walid Al-Isma’ili Al-Batini (d 612) in his book “Taj ul ‘Aqaid” p 54 but with the words of: Allah created me and ‘Ali from light…and we would do Tasbih of Allah before Adam creation from a thousand year…then my light and the light from ‘Ali gathered in Fatimah, and Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn came from it, and they are two lights from the light of the Lord of the universe.”

Then ibn ‘Arabi Al-Hatimi took this Hadith from the Batiniyah, and he has a similar creed to the Batiniyah as said by his student ibn Musdi, and ibn ‘Arabi quoted this Hadith in his “Talqih Al-Azhan”, in his “Futuhat Al-Makkiyah”.

‘Abdullah Al-Ghumari said in “Islah Abyat Al-Burdah” p 75: “The first one who made this Hadith famous is ibn ‘Arabi Al-Hatimi”

Then this Hadith became famous in the books of Shi’ah and Sufiyah, and they quoted it without Isnad. And the first one according to my knowledge who attributed to ‘AbdurRazq is Al-Qastalani in his “Mawahib Al-Laduniyah” vol 1 p 46.

Al-Ghumari said that As-Suyuti also attributed to AbdurRazaq in his “Khasais”, and they are both from tenth century, and both did not mention any Isnad.

Then ‘Ijluni in the 12 century attributed it to ‘AbdurRazaq in “Kashf ul Khafa” vol 1 p 311, and in “Arba’in” n°19, and he clarified in the last book that he did not find the Isnad and he followed Al-Qastalani.

And then the Brawliyah invented this fabricated manuscript.

as Allah says in Surah al-Araaf Verse 172 “And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed and made them testify as to themselves (saying): “Am I not your Lord” They said: “Yes! please see the detailed reply here, These are fabricated ahadeeth

http://allaahuakbar.in/ahaadeeth/12.htm

Let us see authentic ahadeeth
a) Authentic hadith in Tirmidhi from Abu huraira Ra clears this issue.

Prophet (SAW) was asked, “when was the Prophethood made obligatory for you” to which he replied, “while Adam was between the spirit and the body” [At-Tirmidhee chpt. ‘The virtues of the Prophet (SAW)’ (vol. 10 of the commentary of al-Mubaarakfooree.)]

b) Words from Musnad Ahmad and others
Prophet peace be upon him said
“I was written as a Prophet in the presence of Allaah while Adam was intertwined in his clay.”[Musnad Ahmad 4/127,128, Sharah As Sunnah 13/207 and in the Saheehs of al-Haakim and ibn Hibbaan]

c) Let us Understand it with Imam al Behaqi

He said
And what is meant by Prophet Muhammad Peace and blessings be upon Him “I was written [in Umm Al-Kitab] in Allah’s presence as the Seal of the Prophets, while Adam was still kneaded in his clay” is that he was destined and decreed by Allah even before the father of Man and the first of Messenger’s Salawat Allah ‘alaihim.[Dalael Al-Nubuwah 1/81]

Rafadi (Shias) use this hadeeth for their evidence but Alas! this time shias are not using but some other group(calling themselves ahlus sunnah) are using this fabricated thing for their proof, If this hadeeth is authentic then it means Ali Ra is better then Adam peace be upon him because he was created before Adam. 2ndly They accuse those who believe in hands of ALLAH without Resemblance to the creation Bila kaif hy saying they are anthropomorphist , This hadith is clearly saying “I along with Ali were Nur in hands of Allah,” what will they say to themselves? are they Mushabbiha or anthropomorphist? May Allah Guide these people ameen

Did a light shine when the Prophet peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him was born?

Reply

a) Islam QA states

Al-Tabaraani narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “My mother saw in a dream that there came from between her legs a lamp that illuminated the palaces of Syria.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 224.

We should note that the evidence of the Prophethood of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is not limited to this sign. Whether this is proven or not, his Prophethood is proven by definitive evidence which no fair-minded person can deny, rather those who deny it do so out of ignorance or arrogance.(end quote from Islam QA fatwa no. 26713)

b) In Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah, Ibn Katheer, after mentioning some of these accounts, said, “These narrations necessitate that when she was pregnant with him, she had a dream that light came out of her that lit the palaces of the Levant, and when she gave birth to him, she saw with her own eyes the realization of this dream, just as she had seen it before that.” [Islamweb]

c) Mulla Ali Qari said regarding Nur of Prophet peace be upon him:
This nur was indication that by this nur people of earth will be guided. And the Land of his ummah and deen of Millah will spread all over the world… And because of this the darkness of shirk will come to an end, As Allah says “There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book. By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path”[5:15-16] and Allah says “So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful. [7:157] and It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim and others from Thauban that Prophet peace be upon him said: “Allah drew the ends of the world near one another for my sake. And I have seen its eastern and western ends. And the dominion of my Ummah would reach those ends which have been drawn near me [Sahih Muslim Kitab al Fitan] (al Mawrid al Ruwi fe Mawlid an Nabi by Mulla Ali Qari page 37]

Comment: So for Mulla Ali al Qari the nur is guidance not literal nur.

Quotes from as shifa of Qadi Iyaad like

Ibn Abbas (ra) said that the spirit of the Prophet was a light in the hands of Allah two thousand years before he created Adam. That light glorified Him and the angels glorified by his glorification. When Allah created Adam, He casted that light into his loins. The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) then said: “Allah brought me down to earth in the loins of Adam (a.s), placed me in the loins of Nuh (a.s) and then cast me into the loins of Ibrahim (a.s). Allah continued to move me from noble loins and pure wombs until he brought me out from my parents. None of them were ever joined together in fornication

Chain of this athar is needed that is why Imam ad dahabe said regarding Qadi Iyad in Siyar A`lâm al-Nubalâ’. In his biographical entry on al-Qâdî `Iyâd Vol 20 Page 216, he writes:

“His writings are valuable and one of his best works would have been his book al-Shifâ’ had it not been filled with fabricated ahadîth.”

Qadi Iyad himself said
We have mentioned before that Prophet Peace be upon him and all the Prophets and Messengers Alihemus salam are Human being and that their Body and Apparent things are Pure Manly
As shifa of Qadi Iyad Vol 2 Section 3, chapter 2 Fasal 1

Then he said that the inner state of Prophet peace be upon him is different like when he used to sleep his heart was nt sleeping.

He also said
We will examine the Prophet’s worldly states with respect to his beliefs, reports and actions.

As for worldly beliefs, one aspect of his state in this regard is that it was possible for him to believe something concerning the matters of this world based on one interpretation when the opposite was true, or to be subject to doubt or supposition regarding them. These matters are not the same as matters of the Shari’a.

Rafi’ ibn Khadij said that the Messenger of Allah came to Madina while they were pollinating the dates and asked, “What are you doing?” They told him and he said, “Perhaps it would be better not to do it.” So they left it and there were less dates. They mentioned that to him and he said, “I am a man. If I command you to do something in your deen, then do it. If I tell you something from opinion, I am but a man.”‘ Anas added, “You know better the affairs of your world.” Another variant has, “I had an opinion, so do not blame me for having an opinion.”

In the hadith from Ibn ‘Abbas we find, “I am a man. What I tell you from Allah is true. In what I say from myself, I am but a man. I can err and I can be right.” This is what he said about himself regarding his opinions about the affairs of this world. That is not the case with any words which came from him or his ijtihad when laying down the Shari’a or making a sunna. [As ShifaVol 2 SECTION 3:The Prophet’s states with respect to worldly matters, Fasal 2]

Abu Hurraira (ra) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (May Peace be upon him) that he said: When Allah created Adam (Peace be upon him) He informed him of his descendants, at this Adam (Peace be upon him) saw superiority of some over others, then he saw me towards the end in form of an“ILLUMINATING NUR” (i.e. the Last of the Prophets to be sent) he (adam) said: O my Lord who is this? The Lord replied: This is your son Ahmed who is the first and the last and (on the Day of Judgment) he will be first to do intercession.

b) This is Extract from the reply of Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai in Al Hadith no:40 page 45

Abu Al Hasan Ali bin Seema Al Maqri is unknown(No tawtheeq can be found in any of the book) who lived in Bukhara and he is mentinoned in 1249 by Abdul Ghaffar Bin Ismaeel bin Al Farsi

Note That he is not Ali bin Ahmad Bin Omar Bin Hafs Abu Al Hasan Al Maqri who lived in Baghdad and he was Trustworthy.

Same narration is in Kitab Al Awail of Ibn e Abi Asim hadeeth no 5 and also in Kitab Al Sunnah hadith:205 the chain of that is hasan and shaykh al Bani Authenticated it in Zalaal Al Jannah vol 1 page 90

The words of this narration from different chain are

When Allah created Adam (as) he wiped over his back, then from his back every (human being’s) soul was dropped to whom he (Allah) wanted to create before day of Judgment and placed a shine of light between every human being eyes.[Tirmidhi no: 3076 and Tirmidhi said its Hasan Saheeh]

And in the Narration of Abdullah Bin Omar ra the wordings are

Allah swt created his creation in the darkness, then on that day from his (created) light he put on them, so whoever gets light on that day is guided.[Musnad Ahmad 2/176 hadith 6644 and Hakim 1/30 hadith 83]

Note: The hadith of Abu huraira ra mentioned above from Tirmidhee and Al sunnah ibn e abi Asim, it is proven that Prophet peace be upon him was not first of creation in Human being but Adam Peace be upon him was. (end quote from Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai)

c) Badr ud-din Ayni said

Translation: Imam Ahmed and Imam Tirimdhi have narrated the Marfu hadith with Sahih Isnad from Ibada bin Samit (ra) which proves that Allah first created the Pen and then told it to write and It wrote everything which would happen till day of Judgement. Hassan, Ata and Mujahid have adopted this too, Ibn Jarir and Ibn Jawzi also have this Madhab whereas Ibn Jarir has narrated from Muhammad bin Ishaq that “ALLAH CREATED THE NUR AND DARKNESS PRIOR TO EVERYTHING” and then differentiated between them, ( وقيل أو ما خلق الله تعالى نور محمد)it is said that Allah first created “THE NUR OF MUHAMMAD (PEACE BE UPON HIM)” so how could reconciliation be brought in these different narrations? I say that they could be reconciled by saying that everything has its “RELATIVE PRIMACY” and they are first in relevance to things which came after them. [Umdat al Qari, Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume No. 15, Page No. 109]

Note: He said ( وقيل أو ما خلق الله تعالى نور محمد)it is said that Allah first created “THE NUR OF MUHAMMAD (PEACE BE UPON HIM)” قيل is a mode of doubt, which muhadditheen use for fabricated sayings.
.
d) Imam Nawawi said in the commentary of hadith
Muslim (4223) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I will be the leader of the sons of Adam on the Day of Resurrection, and the first one for whom the grave is opened, and the first one to intercede and the first one whose intercession will be accepted.”

Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Sharh Saheeh Muslim:This hadeeth indicates that he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is superior to all of creation, because the view of Ahl al-Sunnah is that humans are better than the angels, and he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is superior to humans and others. End quote.

Comment: It is concluded that Prophet Peace be upon him was Nur of guidance, and in Humanbeings Allah created Adam peace be upon him first. Allah created pen first according to hadith and Majority of the Salaf (like Mujahid, Ata, Hassan) scholars(Like Ibne Jareer Tabri), No one from the Salaf (1st three generations) said Nur of Prophet peace be upon him was created first, No where any of the Salaf said he is human as well as literal nur, but yes they said he is Nur of guidance, even if we agree then it is Proven from hadith quoted above that Allah “placed a shine of light between every human being” so does that mean each and every person is made of literal Nur of Allah (i.e Nur um min Nur iLLAH) .

Their Proof no: 9

Abdullah Ibn Abbas narrated: That I said ‘O’ Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), my mother and father be sacrificed on you where were you at the time Adam (may peace and blessings be upon Him) was in heaven, He said that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) smiled so that his teeth became clear then he said I was in the loin of Adam (may peace and blessings be upon Him) and then in the loin of my father Noah (may peace and blessings be upon Him) then I was taken on a ship then my Light (Nur) was put into loin of Abraham (may peace and blessings be upon Him) my parents were never given to me expect those who did Nikah I was always transferred to pure people. In Turah and Bible was my name was mentioned every Prophet of Allah mentioned by blessings, With my Light (Nur) the morning was lightened and the people got cloud shadow due to me and Allah granted me one of his names and He is Mehmood of Arsh and I am Muhammad and Allah promised me Hodh al-Kosar and he made me the first Intercessor and I will be the first person who Intercession on will be accepted, and Allah gave me birth in the best time of mankind, the people of my Ummah are those who praise Allah, they ask to do good deeds and stop from sins.

Surah AL RA`AD ayah 15

(15. And unto Allah falls in prostration whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and in the afternoons.)

Comment

This is clear cut ayah that whoever is in the heavens and earth prostrate in front of ALLAH and so their shadows

Proof 2

Surah Al Nahl

(48. Have they not observed things that Allah has created: (how) their shadows
shift from right to left, prostrating to Allah while they are humble)

Ibne Kathir Commented
Allah informs us about His might, majesty and pride, meaning that all things submit themselves to Him and every created being – animate and inanimate, as well as the responsible – humans and Jinns, and the angels – all humble themselves before Him. He tells us that everything that has a shadow leaning to the right and the left, i.e., in the morning and the evening, is by its shadow, prostrating to Allah. Mujahid said, “When the sun passes its zenith, everything prostrates to Allah, may He be glorified.” This was also said by Qatadah, Ad-Dahhak and others.

(while they are humble) means, they are in a state of humility. Mujahid also said: “The prostration of every thing is its shadow”, and he mentioned the mountains and said that their prostrations are their shadows. Abu Ghalib Ash-Shaybani said: “The waves of the sea are its prayers”. It is as if reason is attributed to these inanimate objects when they are described as prostrating, so Allah says:

(And to Allah prostrate all that are in the heavens and all that are in the earth, of the moving creatures) As Allah says:

(And to Allah (alone) all who are in the heavens and the earth fall in prostration, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and in the afternoons.) (13:15)

(and the angels, and they are not proud.) means, they prostrate to Allah and are not too proud to worship Him.

(They fear their Lord above them) means, they prostrate out of fear of their Lord, may He be glorified.

(and they do what they are commanded.) meaning they continually obey Allah, doing what He tells them to do and avoiding that which He forbids.(end)

Comment

Prophet peace be upon him and every Creation Prostrate and their Shadow also Prostrate.

Sayyidduna Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that, one night the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) led us in prayer, and whilst in prayer he stretched out his hand and then pulled it back. We said: “O Messenger of Allah! We saw you doing something in prayer that we have not seen you do before.” The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “Indeed, Paradise was presented before me, and I saw in it, fruits that were low and near. I intended to take one but was told to holdback, thus I held back. Then Hell was presented before me until I saw my and your shadow in it, thus I gestured to you to move back.”

This is clear Marfu Hadith of Prophet peace be upon him and no one can reject this saying and it clearly says regading Shadow of Prophet peace be upon him

Proof 4

Sayyida A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) narrates that once while the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) was on a journey, the camel of his wife Sayyida Safiyya (Allah be pleased with her) fell ill. However, his other wife Sayyida Zaynab (Allah be pleased with her) had an extra camel. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said to Sayyida Zaynab: “The camel of Safiyya has become ill, can you lend her your extra camel?” She replied: “should I give that Jew?” (Sayyida Safiyyah was originally a Jew). So, (upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah became upset and) deserted her for two or three months and he would not come to her…. She says: “Until one day, at midday, I could see the shadow of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) approaching.”
(Musnad Ahmad, 6/132,Tabqaat ul Kubra vol 8 page 27 Hadeeth no: 10011,Majma az zawaid vol 4 page page 323)

Shaykh Shoaib Arnaoot said Shameesa is unknow but Its wrong because it is Proven that Shameesah is Trustworthy as said by a) Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai in Al Hadeeth no: 40 page no: 9

b) Yahya bin Maieen said Regarding Shameesah
Trustworthy[Tareekh Ibne Maieen ba Riwayah ad Dorri page 131 no:418]

c) And Imam Sho`bah Narrated Ahadeeth from Her as mentioned in Tazeeb al Kamal Al Mizzi under her Biography

Comment: The rule Regarding Imam Sho`bah is that he only Narrates from Trustworthy people according to him as mentioned in [Tahdeeb at Tahdeeb vol 1 page 4 and 5] Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai said there is no jarha on Shameesa so she is trustworthy because Shobah and Yahya bin Maieen authenticated her.
and from long hadith Sayyaiyadah Safiya RA from same Musnad Ahmad wordings are

When the month of Rabi Ul Awwal came he (peace be upon him) came to me and I saw his Shadow [Musnad Ahmad 6/338 hadith 26908]

Comment

This hadith is clear itself Prophet peace be upon him had a shodow

Proof 5 even Angels (Nuri Creation) have Shadow

Narrated Jabir bin ‘abdullah : On the day of the Battle of uhud, my father was brought and he had been mayhemed and was placed in front of Allah’s Apostle and a sheet was over him. I went intending to uncover my father but my people forbade me; again I wanted to uncover him but my people forbade me. Allah’s Apostle gave his order and he was shifted away. At that time he heard the voice of a crying woman and asked, “Who is this?” They said, “It is the daughter or the sister of Amr.” He said, “Why does she weep? (or let her stop weeping),for the angels had been shading him with their wings till he (i.e. the body of the martyr) was shifted away.” (Sahih Bukhari Book #23, Hadith #381)

Comment

so all the things are cleared ALHUMDULILLAH when Angels (who are pure nur) have shadow then Prophet peace be upon him was not nur only (even according to those people who say Prophet was literal nur)
Reply to their Arguments

After proving from Quran and Ahadith and with Logic that Prophet peace be upon him had a shadow let us see their evidence who believe that he had not shadow.

Their Proof no: 1

Hakim al-Tirmidhi(note that he is not imam hakim nor imam tirmidhi the author of sunan) narrates from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Qays al-Za’farani from ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Walid from Zukran that no shadow could be seen for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in sunlight nor [could it be seen] in moonlight and his excreta did not leave behind any effect or remains. (Khasa’is; 1/71)

(Taken from: http://deoband.org/2009/08/hadith/rulings-on-hadith/regarding-the-shadow-of-the-messenger/ )

First narrator of this hadith, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Qays al-Za’farani, is an unreliable and discredited narrator. He has also been considered a liar and an un-trustworthy person. It has even been said that he openly fabricated hadiths.

Imam Dhahabi (may Allah have mercy on him) relates in al-Mizan: “Ibn Mahdi and Abu Zur’ah have considered him a liar. Imam Bukhari says: ‘His reports are not reliable.’ Imam Ahmad says: ‘He was not acceptable.’ Hakim narrates a munkar (disclaimedhadith) from him and said that it is sahih.” … [Similar has been written in Al-Taqrib of Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani (may Allah have mercy on him) and he adds:] “Nasa’i says: ‘His reports are to be discarded …’ Zakariyya al-Saji says: ‘Weak.’ Saleh ibn Muhammad says: ‘He used to forge hadith.’ Ibn ‘Adi says: ‘Most of his reports cannot be corroborated with reliable narrators.’ …”

The second narrator of the hadith, ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Walid, is unknown. His biography has not been mentioned in the biographical accounts of hadith reporters.(end)

The Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas was asked the following question:

Here in Pakistan the scholars of the Bareilawi sect believe that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cast no shadow,… Is this hadeeth saheeh which says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had no shadow?

They replied:

This view is false and goes against the texts of the Qur’aan and the saheeh Sunnah which indicate that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was human and did not differ in his human make-up from other people. He had a shadow like any other human. The Prophethood with which Allaah honoured him did not alter the fact that he was human as Allaah created him, with a father and mother. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Say (O Muhammad): I am only a man like you. It has been revealed to me that your Ilaah (God) is One Ilaah (God ___i.e. Allaah)”

[al-Kahf 18:110]

“Their Messengers said to them: We are no more than human beings like you”

[Ibraaheem 14:11]

With regard to the report that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was created from the light of Allaah, this is a fabricated hadeeth..[Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 1/464]

Hafiz Dahabi writes :

PROPHET PEACE BE UPON HIM was Syed ul Bashar, Prophet PEACE BE UPON HIM used to eat, drink, sleep, call of nature, get sick, serve medicine for cure and to clean his mouth he used Miswak. May My Parents will die on you , When Prophet peace be upon him died same things were done to him which are done with other Human beings, Means he was given Ghusul, Kafan, and his Grave was dig out and then he was buried.(Meezan al Itedal 2/649)

Conclusion:
The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the best and most perfect of creation, and the most beloved to Allaah and the most honoured by Him. But this does not mean but he has a beginning, he was born in Makkah to his parents, Abdullah and Aminah, we cannot say that the Prophet is “physical light” we can say musk came out of him and water came out of his hands but we can not say he was physical water or physical musk, Indeed he was Nur of Guidance and he had a shadow
